Physiotherapy is an intense field filled with both anatomy and physiology as well as the intricacies and art of patient care. The degree is also very competitive due to high demand from students, with many using the degree as a perfect stepping stone to medicine. Overall, entry requirements for physiotherapy vary between universities across the state, though they tend to be very high.

As a result, it can be difficult to state a definitive score for entry, though in general you should aim for an ATAR between 95 and 99.95.

Below, we’ve broken down the ATAR score requirements you’ll need to study physiotherapy in Queensland for each university. The most common undergraduate physiotherapy degree is the Bachelor of Physiotherapy, offered by several Queensland universities.

University of Queensland ATAR For Physiotherapy

The University of Queensland offers a 4-year Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) degree at their St Lucia campus. A key aspect of UQ’s physiotherapy degree is an emphasis on practical experience, and real-world experience begins from the first year of the degree. As you can see, the median unadjusted ATAR a student had that was accepted into the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) degree at the University of Queensland in 2022 was 98.60. If your goal is to become a physiotherapy student at UQ, we recommend aiming for this goal, or even above to ensure that you remain competitive for future years as cutoffs continue to change. Griffith ATAR For Physiotherapy

Griffith University also offers a 4-year Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree like UQ. Like the University of Queensland, entry into physiotherapy at Griffith University also requires a very high ATAR score though it is slightly lower than UQ’s. You should aim to meet or surpass this if your goal is to study physiotherapy at Griffith Nathan. In 2022, the lowest adjusted ATAR to gain admission was 98.05. The median unadjusted ATAR for admission into Griffith’s Bachelor of Physiotherapy at their Gold Coast campus was 95.20. You should aim to meet or surpass this if your goal is to study physiotherapy at Griffith Gold Coast. In 2022, the lowest adjusted ATAR to gain admission was 97.80. ACU ATAR For Physiotherapy

The Australian Catholic University (ACU) offers a 4-year Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree at its Brisbane campus. Entry remains competitive, though the ATAR score required is slightly lower than other universities we’ve mentioned so far. Here are the scores to study physiotherapy at ACU in 2022:

The median unadjusted ATAR for admission into ACU’s Bachelor of Physiotherapy in Brisbane was 92.50. You should aim to meet or surpass this if your goal is to study physiotherapy at ACU. In 2022, students were accepted into this degree if they achieved an adjusted ATAR of 97.10 or above at ACU’s Brisbane campus. JCU ATAR For Physiotherapy

James Cook University, located in Townsville, offers a Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree and is another popular choice for prospective physiotherapists from Queensland. Like the others degrees we have seen, this one is 4 years in duration. Here are the ATAR scores to study physiotherapy at James Cook University:

The median unadjusted ATAR for admission into JCU’s Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree was 90.05 which you should aim to meet or surpass if your goal is to study physiotherapy at James Cook University. Bond Physiotherapy

Bond University does not offer an undergraduate physiotherapy degree; however, they do offer a unique postgraduate Doctor of Physiotherapy. As a postgraduate degree, the Doctor of Physiotherapy requires successful completion of an undergraduate degree that meets the program’s requirements. Bond recommends the Bachelor of Exercise Science and Sport Science which requires a minimum ATAR of 70. Students must achieve a minimum GPA of 2 on a 4-point scale and will be subject to an interview to gain admission to the Doctor of Physiotherapy. The duration of their physiotherapy degree is 2 years full-time (though this is after the completion of an undergraduate degree).

Conclusion

Physiotherapy is an incredibly rewarding career that is well worth the effort to achieve. It is also an ideal stepping stone course for a postgraduate medicine degree and prepares students well for the rigours of medical school. However, that doesn’t mean it’s easy to gain entry. Physiotherapy is one of the most difficult degrees to gain entry into from high school, though it is still definitely achievable.
