Overall, entry requirements for computer science can vary considerably between universities across the state.

As a result, it can be difficult to state a definitive score for entry, though in general you should aim for an ATAR between 63 and 95.

As you can see, this is a large range so below we’ve broken down the ATAR score requirements you’ll need to study computer science in Queensland for each university. The most common undergraduate computer science degree is the Bachelor of Computer Science which is offered by several Queensland universities.

University of Queensland

The University of Queensland offers a 3-year Bachelor of Computer Science degree at their St Lucia campus. As part of the program, students can specialise in cyber security, data science, machine learning, programming languages or scientific computing. As you can see, the median unadjusted ATAR a student had that was accepted into the Bachelor of Computer Science degree at the University of Queensland in 2022 was 91.20. If your goal is to become a computer science student at UQ, we recommend aiming for this goal, or even above to ensure that you remain competitive for future years as cutoffs continue to change. QUT ATAR For Computer Science

QUT offers a Bachelor of Information Technology (Computer Science) degree for school leavers. Like UQ, the computer science degree runs for 3 years full-time. Students will learn software development and networked systems, with the opportunity to gain specific expertise in areas such as information security, networks, and communications, intelligent systems, data-centric computing, or user experience. The median unadjusted ATAR needed for entry into QUT’s Bachelor of Information Technology (Computer Science) was 79.25 in 2022. We recommend aiming for this goal, or above it, to ensure you have the best chance of gaining admission into QUT’s Bachelor of Information Technology (Computer Science) as selection ranks continue to change each year. QUT offers several adjustment schemes and bonus points, and the lowest adjusted ATAR accepted was 70.05. Griffith University also offers a 3-year Bachelor of Computer Science degree similar to UQ and QUT. Like these universities, entry into this degree at Griffith University also requires a relatively high ATAR score though it tends to be slightly lower than UQ and QUT. The duration of 3 years matches the other degrees from the universities above. The ATAR score required for USQ’s information technology degree tends to be on the lower end compared to the universities above.
